Privacy policy

This policy covers the Audia app for iPhone, iPad and Android (listed in the stores as “Audiobook Player – Offline”) and this website, audiabook.app. Audia is made by Guntis Jakovins (“we”, “us”), who is responsible for the processing described here. Contact: privacy@audiabook.app.

The Audia app

What we don't collect

Audia doesn't collect, store on our servers, or share any personal data. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics or usage tracking, no crash reporting service and no advertising identifier. We have no server that receives anything from the app.

What stays on your device

To work, the app keeps the following on your device only:

• Your library: the folders and files you choose, and details read from them (titles, authors, chapters, cover art). Audia reads your audio files; it doesn't upload them anywhere.
• Listening progress, bookmarks and notes, history, queue, categories, statistics and goals.
• Captions and translations, which are generated on the device.
• Your settings and the state of your Premium purchase or trial.

You can delete any of it in the app, and all of it by uninstalling Audia. If your device backs up app data (for example iCloud or Google backup), that backup is handled by Apple or Google under your account settings.

When the app connects to the internet

Listening never needs a connection. The app connects only in these cases:

You turn on captions and download a speech model (once per model)	Hugging Face (huggingface.co)	An ordinary download request. Like any web server, it sees your IP address. No audio, text or personal data is sent.
You turn on translation and download a language model (once per language pair)	Mozilla's Firefox Translations model storage, hosted on Google Cloud Storage	An ordinary download request, as above. Translation then runs entirely on your device.
You start, buy or restore Premium	Apple App Store or Google Play	Handled by your store under its own terms and privacy policy. We receive only the store's confirmation that Premium was purchased, never your name or payment details.

Links you open from the app, such as the store page or this website, open in your browser.

Car and system features

Android Auto, CarPlay, the lock screen, notifications and the home-screen widget show what is playing (book title, chapter, cover). This information passes only between Audia and your phone's or car's system software.

Permissions

Audia asks only for what it uses: access to the folders or files you pick, notifications for playback controls and, on Android, an optional exemption from battery optimisation so long caption jobs can finish in the background. Each can be changed in your device settings.

Children

Audia is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.

This website

Hosting and visits

audiabook.app is served by Cloudflare. To deliver pages and protect the site, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We don't use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking scripts, and we don't build visitor profiles.

The support form

If you send a message through the support form, we process:

• the email address you give, and your name if you give one;
• your topic, device and app version if you choose them, and your message;
• the approximate country of your connection and the time you sent it.

Why and on what basis: to read and answer your request and to improve Audia. We rely on your consent, which you give with the checkbox on the form (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time by writing to us, and we will delete your message.

How it reaches us: the message is checked and passed on by Cloudflare's email routing and delivered to the developer's Gmail mailbox, operated by Google.

How long we keep it: for as long as we need to handle your request and any follow-up, and no longer than 24 months, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.

Spam protection

The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated spam. Turnstile checks signals from your browser (for example how it behaves and technical device characteristics) without showing puzzles in most cases, and doesn't use them for advertising. This is in our legitimate interest in keeping the form free of abuse (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). See Cloudflare's privacy policy and the Turnstile privacy addendum.

Who else processes data

We don't sell or share personal data. These providers process it on our behalf or under their own terms, as described above:

• Cloudflare, Inc.: website hosting, email routing and spam protection.
• Google LLC: the Gmail mailbox that receives support messages.
• Apple Inc. and Google LLC: app distribution and in-app purchases, under your store account.
• Hugging Face and Mozilla (via Google Cloud): hosting of the optional caption and translation models.

Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask us for access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. You can also ask us to restrict processing, object to it, or provide your data in a portable form, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Write to privacy@audiabook.app or use the support form. We answer within one month. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Because the app keeps everything on your device, we hold no app data about you. Deleting the app's data on your device, or uninstalling it, removes it.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the date above. Material changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
